CALDWELL, Idaho – The top two teams in the preseason conference poll lived up to expectations as the Saints topped the Lady Yotes, 1-0, in an overtime thriller.
In the 92nd minute, Yiena Gazdik broke through the tough Yotes' defense and shot over the keeper,
Brittany Houghton, for a sudden death victory.
Both teams came out strong, as neither team could get an advantage offensively. The Saints outshot the Yotes 5-1 with Houghton making four saves, while the Yotes had two corners to the Saints' zero.
The College of Idaho put the pressure on the Saints in the second half, outshooting them 5-0. The Yotes came close to breaking the deadlock when
Mallory Cripps fought past the defense but her shot was saved at the last moment.
Katelyn Benavidez led the Yotes in shots with two while
Emma Powley, Jamiece Yazir,
Victoria Cerda and Cripps all tallied one.
The Yotes and the Saints were tied in shots with six while the Yotes led in corners (3-0) and saves (4-2).
College of Idaho dropped to 4-3 on the season with a 0-3 record in conference play. The Yotes return to the field at home on Sunday against the Argos of Great Falls. The match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Men's match.
