SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The College of Idaho played No. 12 ranked Rocky Mountain even for 45 minutes, but the Bears scored two second half goals to top the Yotes, 3-1, in a physical Cascade Conference Championships quarterfinal.
The two teams combined for 43 fouls and 13 cards, with the Bears (16-2-1) ending the match with a 10-on-8 advantage. RMC will meet rival Great Falls in the semifinals, while the Yotes (7-8) saw their season end.
Rocky struck first in the fifth minute, as CCC Newcomer of the Year Steven Forbes cracked a free kick from just outside the box into the back of the net for an early lead. Less than a minute later, the Yotes got a free kick just outside their box, with
Kyler Auernhamer playing a ball inside the 6-yard-box, finding the head of
Admir Selimovic for the tying counter.
The Yotes defense kept the Bears at bay until the 55th minute, as Nolan Sherwood played a cross into the mix that was deflected into the net for the go-ahead goal. RMC would add a key insurance goal in the 69th minute, as Donovan Luce made a long run, slotting home a touch into the right corner of the net.
Rocky held a 19-10 edge in total shots, with C of I keeper
Grant Billings making nine saves in the loss.
