Yotes and Eastern Play to a 1-1 Draw

CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho Lady Yotes battled the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon to a 1-1 draw in Cascade Conference opening play this afternoon at Simplot Stadium in front of 405 fans.

C of I (3-3-2, 0-0-1 CCC) had opportunities on which they were unable to capitalize on in the first 20 minutes of the match. The Lady Yotes best opportunity was in the 4th minute when Jamiece Yizar blasted a ball off a cross into the area that caught the top of the crossbar.

Eastern Oregon (2-3-2, 0-0-1) would break the scoreless game on a Kaeliana Devera goal, assisted by Alora Brown in the 42nd minute. Brown came down the left side, playing a ball into the middle of the box, with Devera driving a shot into the right corner of the net.

Early in the second half, the Lady Yotes tallied the equalizer as Hailey Woods sent a ball in off a free kick from the corner, finding the head of Summer Jackson, who cracked the one-timer into the net.

C of I had their best opportunity in the 76th minute when Julia Fretwell hit the crossbar on a pass from Katy Radko from the top of the six-yard box.

The Mountaineers had an opportunity to win the match in the last twenty seconds of the second overtime period, as a ball was sent just outside the six-yard box and booted right of the C of I goal.

The Lady Yotes broke the mold of being outshot, firing off seven more shots than the Mountaineers on the afternoon, four more on goal.

Freshman Brittany Houghton won the starting job heading into conference play, saving four balls and allowing one in 110 minutes of action.

Jacksonn led the Lady Yotes with five shots, three of which were on target. Yizar and Katelyn Benavidez combined for five more shots on the afternoon for the C of I.

Four Lady Yotes played the entire 110-minutes of action - Jackson, Sydney Woods, Katy Radko, and Houghton.

C of I will be back in action next Thursday when the Lady Yotes host Warner Pacific.
