GULF SHORES, Ala. – College of Idaho seniors Hillary Holt and Sarah Johnson capped their collegiate careers with a bang, each winning national titles on the final day of the NAIA Track & Field National Championships inside Blackwell Stadium.
Complete Results The duo helped C of I finish sixth overall at the meet, scoring 39 team points.
Holt claimed her ninth career individual national championship, cruising to a six-second win in the 1,500-meters (4:18.28) – just two seconds off the meet record. Holt, who also anchored two national championship relays teams, also took third in the 800-meters, earning her 17th career All-America honor.
Johnson surprised the field in the 5,000-meters, breaking away over the final 800 meters to win in a time of 17:24.06. She becomes the third individual C of I national champion in program history.
Jasmine Hurd broke a pair of school records and earned two All-America honors in the hurdle events. The senior placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.06), breaking her own record by a hundredth of a second, while taking fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.22), breaking the previous mark by a half second.
Sora Klopfenstein earned her ninth career All-America accolade with a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:51.60), while finishing just off the podium with a tenth-place finish in the 5,000-meters (18:08.67).
Two others competed on the day – Lila Klopfenstein taking tenth in the 1,500-meters (4:38.78), and Myja Maki placing 29th in the marathon (3:38:58).
Also honored today were five Lady Yotes who were named to the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete Team. Holt, Brittany Beame, Madison Crookham, Hannah Lentz, and Sarah Neufeld all are at least a junior in academic standing and have maintained a 3.50 cumulative grade point average at C of I.
