Late Goal Helps C of I Earn Draw at Southern

ASHLAND, Ore.- Jessica Whitehead sent home an equalizing goal in the 85th minute as the College of Idaho overcame a late deficit to earn a key draw at Southern Oregon, as the two teams played to a 1-1 tie at Raider Stadium.

SOU (4-8-1, 3-2-1 CCC) broke the scoreless match in the 80th minute as Haylee Eckart stole the ball from C of I defense and blasted a 12-yard strike from left to right over Lady Yotes keeper Brittany Houghton.

C of I (6-3-3, 3-0-2) would come storming back on a flurry of shots in the next few minutes, eventually finding the tying goal after Summer Jackson's 22-yard free kick attempt was blocked by Raider keeper Devon Walker with the rebound finding the foot of Whitehead, who flicked the ball into the net.

The Yotes had a few attempts at the game-winning goal in the last minutes of the regulation, getting two shot attempts off a corner kick in the 88th minute but were unable to find the goal.

The first overtime period was controlled by SOU as the Raiders had three shot attempts to the Lady Yotes none. Houghton saved a potential game-winning attempt off the foot of Kelsey Randall in the 98th minute to keep the game tied.

The Lady Yotes had two shots on goal in the second and final extra time period as Whitehead and Camas Curran both had shots saved by Devon Walker of SOU.

C of I withstood an SOU corner kick in the last 90 seconds of the match to guarantee another CCC point and running their unbeaten streak to five.

Both squads put up 15 shots with the Raiders having a 7-6 edge in shots on frame.

Whitehead led the C of I with four shots, two on target in the match. Houghton played all 110 minutes in the net, saving six shots.

The Lady Yotes return home, hosting Northwest in a first-place showdown on Thursday.
