Yotes Upset Bid Falls Short vs. #4 MidAmerica Nazarene

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Playing their highest ranked opponent in program history, The College of Idaho held the lead midway through the second half, before falling 2-1 to No. 4 ranked MidAmerica Nazarene at Dumke Field.

The Yotes (0-1) struck first on the artificial surface with less than one minute to play in the first half, as Joseph Bolin got away from the Pioneers defense and sent a ball past keeper Chris Ericksson for a 1-0 lead.

C of I keeper Colin Benham-Marin kept MNU (3-0-1), the defending NAIA national semifinalists, at bay with seven saves over the first 70 minutes - but the battled-tested team broke through to grab the win. Lukas Machado found the net with 20 minutes remaining in the contest on an unassisted goal to tie the game, with Aurelien Norris heading home a Jelani Jillo cross in the 77th minute to give the Pioneers the lead for good.

The Coyotes had one final chance in the 82nd minute, but Ericksson made a save on a Bolin shot to secure the win.

MNU held an 18-5 edge in total shots, including 11 on frame, and had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Benham-Marin made nine total saves in the loss for the Yotes.

C of I returns to the pitch on Labor Day morning, meeting Bethesda at 11 a.m.
