LAST WEEK:  at Puget Sound (L 8-1), at Pacific Lutheran (L 8-1), Exhibition at Skagit Valley CC (W 7-2)

GREAT ROAD TRIP: The Lady Yotes made their third road trip of the 2013 season last weekend and showed marked improvement in three matches in Washington – including an exhibition win at Skagit Valley CC.  A big win on the swing was at No. 1 singles’ against Pacific Lutheran, as Shae Stults (Nampa, Idaho / Columbia HS) logged a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Samantha Lund – her first win at No. 1 against a four-year school.  On Sunday, the Yotes swept the entire doubles’ ladder at SVCC, while winning 4-of-6 singles’ matches – including the first collegiate victories by Emily Tesnohlidek (Fruitland, Idaho / U. of Idaho) and Rachel Webster (Twin Falls, Idaho / Twin Falls HS).  The Yotes won at least one game in 17-of-18 singles’ matches on the trip.

HUTCHINGS SETS THE BAR: It was an outstanding road trip for senior Hayley Hutchings (Nampa, Idaho / Skyview HS), who won 2-of-3 No. 2 singles’ matches and added a doubles’ victory.  Hutchings was leading Puget Sound’s Jenna Gerdsen, 6-5, in the first set, when the UPS player was forced to default due to injury.  She played well in a 6-4, 7-5 loss against PLU, then dominated Toria Morcom of SVCC, 6-0, 6-0 – while teaming with Shae Stults for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles’.

OFF TO HAWAII: For the fourth time in the last seven seasons, The C of I will spend their Spring Break in Hawaii – the home of head coach, Cisco Limbago.  The Lady Yotes will be on Oahu for six days – competing in four matches against NCAA competition.  The squad traveled to Hawaii in 2007 and 2008, and most recently in 2011.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION: The trip opens up against George Fox, as the Lady Yotes look for improvement after the Bruins (4-8) defeated C of I, 9-0, earlier in the month.  GFU is led by the middle of their ladder – as Shaina Inn, Chantelle Hadeed, and Krista Rey have each recorded four singles’ wins.  The Yotes will compete next against Division II Chaminade, as the Silverswords (0-10) are searching for their first win of the season.  Kim Takara has two of Chaminade’s three singles’ victories this season.  The Yotes will have to step it up a notch, meeting Hawaii Pacific, as the Sea Warriors (9-1) are ranked No. 5 in the Division II.  HPU is paced by top players Ielyzaveta Rybakova and Celina Goetti.  The trip concludes on Thursday with a match against Hawaii-Hilo, as the Vulcans (0-5) are searching for their first win of 2013.

GAMES WON: Hayley Hutchings 43, Emily Tesnohlidek 41, Tanya Greenwood (Hailey, Idaho / Wood River HS) 22, Emilee Chapman (Eugene, Ore. / Marist HS) 20, Shae Stults 19, Rachel Webster 19.
